Auto Trader, the car listings website, has signed an exclusive agreement with Facebook to promote its cars and dealers to the social network’s users via its classified listings, Facebook Marketplace.

The partnership, made possible via the online classifieds marketplace Oodle, the engine behind Facebook Marketplace, will see information of Auto Trader’s 350,000 cars made available to more than 26 million of Facebook’s UK audience.

As part of the deal only Auto Trader-advertised vehicles and Facebook user postings will be included in the dedicated vehicles section of the marketplace.

The car listings site hopes that the deal will add additional value for its 12,000 private sellers and car dealers who pay a fee to advertise one their site. Any vehicle listed on will also now be added to Fabook.

In light of the agreement, Auto Trader is in the process of setting up a dedicated team to help dealers and manufacturers build their social media presence to allow them to integrate Marketplace listings into their wider social media offering.

Jonathan Williams, director of emarketing at Auto Trader said “There’s huge demand in the automotive and dealer community around social media.

“Getting in early and being able to provider a platform to make it easier for them is key. It’s early days but the evidence from the US is that social media is increasing conversion rates by around 15-20%.”
