In the modern age where social media is overtaking the mass media as the first source of news and peer recommendations are almost more important than a brand name or brand image; product recommendations on your website can be one of the most powerful marketing tools you can use.

It is widely accepted that product recommendations are a proven way to boost conversion rates for online retailers, even more so if these recommendations are updated and produced in real-time.

Behavioural merchandising is the process of using customer behaviour to place, promote and display products in order to maximise retail sales revenue. In an online retail context, examples includes using data on where visitors come from, what they search for, what they click on and what they buy, to drive as relevant product promotions to each visitor at every point of interaction as possible.

Metrics driven Merchandising uses data from the activity on the site itself, such as most popular (i.e. most viewed), newest to the site, margin, stock-levels, top-selling etc. to make recommendations
For example, Behavioural Merchandising and Metrics-driven Merchandising represent functionality that can be configured, switched-on and left to run in completely automatic-mode

Good Site Search can be the different between a website being a thriving online business and a business struggling to make ends meet.  Many websites are poorly developed in the way in which their site search works, much to the detriment of the business… it almost begs the questions; why have great products on your site if it is nigh on impossible to find them…. worryingly, this is the case for many sites that are poorly served by their clunky in-site search functionality.

The desperation for a business to set up a online platform or point of sale often means that many run before they can work. Having a well developed Site Search functionality can help many businesses move to the next level… not only in terms of bringing more customers to the site and allowing them to find what they are looking for but also by creating additional revenue opportunities through merchandising activities.

Recently, one Locayta ESP client that began displaying ads on search results pages for searches into a specific product or product line boosted their online sales by a staggering 44%; it can be done, its just very important to make sure that you are doing things correctly and not creating your own obstacles.

When it comes to Site Search it really is the little things that make all the difference. For starters, it is vital that you make sure your search engine is not driving customers away because of failed searches. A customer should never find that mis spelling or mis typing search terms leads them to failed searches and zero results… to many customers this can be as simple as them thinking that you don’t have sophisticated enough technology, or worse, that you don’t have the product that they are looking for.

Search software and products should be agile and able to learn from a users shopping experience, providing customers with intelligent navigation, predictive type-ahead, and a semblance of balance, allowing retailers to adjust search results based on margins of popularity, location, new products and stock availability.

Whatever your website looks like, if you are hoping to make it a successful online business it is vital that  you direct your customers to the correct products, quickly and accurately; ensuring that you are improving customer satisfaction and ultimately improve click-through rates.

iOs Search engine

Locayta Search Mobile is a search engine for the iOs platform, which includes the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.

Locayta Search Mobile provide highly accurate and relevant search results, enabling users to find exactly what they’re looking for. Locayta Search Mobile is one of the most advanced search engines on the market and is now available for the iOS platform. Locayta Search Mobile is a port of Locayta’s full text search engine library for the iOS platform. The core library is pure C (with a bit of C++) with a higher level Objective-C API wrapped around it. We have also produced a static library in a Framework bundle so that iPhone & iPad apps can provide fast local full text search. The search engine provides full text search using a probabilistic model of document terms, along with clever features to improve search success such as automatic spell correction (based on trigram analysis of terms) and word stemming.

Locayta Search Mobile is suitable for applications where the user needs to create data locally to the device that can be searchable on the fly. Some
examples might be: note taking app; task management app; CRM app; word processing app.

Applications that come bundled with a resource of information may include the pre-built search database along with the application. In this case the search database can be created on a desktop computer and added to the application resources in XCode. Some examples might be: digital magazine; story book app; technical reference manual; subscription-based reports access.
